The Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council of European Union on protection of personal data (GDPR) (EU) 2016/679 regulates European Union (EU) law on data protection and privacy for all individuals within the EU. It also addresses the export of personal data outside the EU. The GDPR aims primarily to give control to citizens and residents over their personal data and to simplify the regulatory environment for international business by unifying the regulation within the EU. The GDPR applies to both automated personal data and to manual filing systems where personal data are accessible according to specific criteria.

Croatian Register of Shipping has implemented the GDPR since 25th May 2018, ensuring that collected personal data is protected.
